As we reflect on all of our blessings, we are mindful of those among us who are in need. This holiday season, we hope you will consider this and join us in giving back to the community. To make it easier for you, we’ve compiled a list of 5 wonderful volunteer opportunities in Little Rock, Arkansas to pursue this holiday season.
At the Arkansas Food Bank, there are many ways to volunteer your time and talents to benefit Arkansas children, seniors, and families in need. Volunteer activities include sorting donations, processing and organizing items for distribution, preparing backpack food kits for children in schools, office assistance, deliveries, and more. They also recruit volunteers to assist with fundraising, events, and community engagement. If you don’t have time to spare, the Food Bank accepts donations by phone or mail. No one should ever go hungry, especially during the holiday season!
It’s true that there’s “no place like home for the holidays.” Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for the homeless and nearly homeless individuals struggling in Little Rock. Our House is an organization that provides housing, resources, and empowerment to families and individuals in Central Arkansas to open a pathway out of homelessness. There are many ways to support their cause, from providing financial or item donations to serving meals, working in one of their resale stores, and more. If you want to play Santa, maybe you’d like to participate in their holiday giving program this year. Depending on your budget, you could choose to adopt-a-family or stuff a stocking for an individual.
Youth Home, Inc. is a non-profit psychiatric treatment center for emotionally troubled adolescents and their families based in Little Rock. Youth Home provides day and residential treatment in their facilities as well as school-based and outpatient services. Each year, about 60 children spend the holidays at Youth Home. The Christmas For Kids Campaign provides gifts to each resident, making the holidays away from home a little bit sweeter. Habitat for Humanity relies on volunteers to drive their mission to provide safe, durable housing for individuals in need. Volunteers give their time to help with construction, deconstruction, working in Habitat ReStores, and more. Donations are accepted by mail and online.
Women and Children First provides resources and assistance to empower women and children in Central Arkansas to live lives free of domestic violence, including crisis services, shelter, social and legal advocacy, and education and support services.
