Employee Profile: Bradley Henson & Andrew Wyles
“Parts, this is Bradley.”
“Parts, this is Andrew.”
The phones are literally always ringing at the parts department desk at Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Andrew Wyles, parts advisor, and Bradley Henson, accessory/retail parts sales, are constantly picking up the phones and helping customers by answering questions, ordering parts and relaying information back and forth from customers to the mechanics in service.
“We easily get a hundred calls a day,” Henson said.
The calls Henson and Wyles get range from questions about parts and accessories to service to someone needing to be transferred to another department.
What’s the question they get way too often?
“‘How much are keys?’” Henson said. “It’s easily the question we get asked the most.
The answer to that question all depends on what year, make and model the vehicle is, and it could cost a few hundred dollars.
“‘That’s too much,’ they’ll say,” Wyles said. “It’s a common question and answer. People always lose their keys.”
“The most important thing, if you’re buying a used car, is to make sure they have two keys,” Henson added. “If the car doesn’t come with two keys, have them put it into the deal when you buy the car.”
Henson has been in parts most of his career and at Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for a little over a year.
“I started looking for my first car when I was 16 and I just got interested in cars,” Henson said. “I was actually going to be a mechanic and I went to Pulaski Tech, but it didn’t really work out. I stayed in parts because I worked at a parts store in college.”
Wyles has worked at dealership’s parts departement for the last two years. Before that, he worked at the City of Maumelle’s Parks and Recreation Department for 10 years.
“I did a little bit of everything,” Wyles said. “I did irrigation, concrete work and everything above the sun in Maumelle. And this is a completely different occupation.”
Wyles didn’t go to school for either. He went to Pulaski Tech and majored in occupational therapy and worked at Baptist Health as an occupational therapist. His wife works in the warranty department at Landers Toyota and it’s how Wyles’s interest in parts was piqued.
“I wanted to try something new,” Wyles said. “I’ve had several different jobs and when I got into this field it was new for me.
“Parts involves a little bit of everything. I love the details, as far as everything involved with parts of a vehicle, learning different components of parts and learning what does what in a vehicle.”
In addition to working with customers and mechanics, the parts and accessories department is the dealership’s hub for supplies.
“We joke around and say if the parts department wasn’t here the whole dealership would shut down,” Henson said. “We have all the clothes, paper for the printer, pens — people come back daily asking me for pens. We’re definitely essential. As individuals, we’re all replaceable, but you can’t function without the parts department. Everyone knows service is essential, but so are we.”
