Decade Challenge: Ram 1500, 2010-2020

It seems like everyone is taking the “decade challenge” on social media. What is the”decade challenge”, you ask? It’s a challenge for users to share a photo of themselves from 10 years ago next to a current picture to share just how much they’ve changed over the past decade. At Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we’ve gone through plenty of changes, too. We decided one “glow-up” we’d like to highlight is that of one of our most popular vehicles: the Ram 1500. Read on to learn how much this iconic pickup has changed over the last 10 years!  

Power and Capability

The 2010 Ram 1500 had three engine options: a 3.7-liter V6, a 4.7-liter V8 engine, or a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine. It was offered with a four or five-speed automatic transmission and two- or four-wheel drive. The 3.7-liter engine produced 215 horsepower and 235 lb.-ft. of torque, the 4.7-liter engine produced 310 hp and 330 lb.-ft. of torque, and the 5.7-liter engine produced 390 hp and 407 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2020 Ram 1500 has four powerful engines: the 3.6-liter V6 with eTorque mild-hybrid technology, the 5.7-liter V8, the 5.7-liter V8 engine with eTorque mild-hybrid technology, or the new 3.0-liter Ecodiesel, all paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. How about horsepower?  Both the available 5.7-liter engines produce 395 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque. The 3.6-liter V6 engine with eTorque produces 305 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, and the 3.0-liter Ecodiesel produces 260 hp and 480 lb.-ft. of torque. Of course, the 2020 Ram 1500 is available in four-wheel drive, too. The Ram 1500 gained some muscle from 2010 to 2020! The 2010 Ram 1500 had a maximum towing capacity of 10,450 pounds, while the 2020 Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds when properly equipped. 

Exterior

The 2010 Ram 1500 had a softer, more curved exterior than its new 2020 version. The front fascia featured an angular hood, a curved grille with four grille slots, and a ram’s-head badge. The rear fascia sported an aluminum tailgate with a ram’s head badge and an available chrome bumper. 

The 2020 Ram 1500 has a futuristic, modernized exterior with a sleek new look! The front fascia has a sculpted hood, an elaborate, geometric grille adorned with strong “RAM” lettering, full LED headlamps, and a glistening chrome bumper. The rear fascia has received a major upgrade, too. The 2020 Ram 1500 has several tailgate options to suit the unique needs of consumers. The available Multifunction Tailgate has been expertly engineered with two doors that swing open to 88 degrees offering easier access to the truck bed.

Add the class-exclusive available RamBox Cargo Management System, and you’ve got plenty of cargo space to store all the necessities. 

We think one of the coolest features is the automatic power-release tailgate. With the click of a button, your tailgate will open automatically, even in extreme cold or hot weather! 

Dimensions

The Ram 1500 grew from 227.5 inches in length in 2010 to 228.9 inches in length in 2020. Its width increased from 79.4 inches to 82.1 inches, and its height grew from 74.8 inches to 77.5 inches. The 2010 Ram 1500 and had three available bed lengths: five foot seven inches, six foot four inches, and an eight foot length bed. The 200 Ram 1500 has the same bed length offerings, however, only the Ram 1500 Classic is available with an eight-foot bed. 

Interior

The 2010 Ram 1500 regular cab had seating for three, while the quad and crew cab models offered seating for up to six with available leather and heated seats. The tech features included a  six-speaker CD stereo with an auxiliary input jack with available ten-speaker stereo with satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and navigation. 

The 2020 Ram 1500 has some major interior upgrades! The 2020 Ram 1500 offers leather, premium cloth, or vinyl seats with available seat warmers in the first row and second row seats.  The available Uconnect 12.0 with Navigation features an advanced, Largest-in-Class 12-inch touchscreen has pinch-and-zoom technology and user-friendly controls so consumers can have access to what they need when they need it. Apple Carplay and Android Auto provide the ultimate experience in smart-phone connectivity, allowing access to all apps, messages, and entertainment. A media center with auxiliary ports, up to four ultra-fast USB charging ports, and up to three 115-volt outlets keeps all devices charged and ready to go. And that’s not all: the 2020 Ram 1500 boasts a 900-watt Harman Kardon Premium Audio System for your listening pleasure.  

Safety

The Ram 1500 has made great strides in safety in the past decade. In 2010, the Ram 1500 offered safety features such as Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), brake assist, electronic stability control, daytime running lights, integrated turn signal mirrors, front tow hooks, and traction control. The new 2020 Ram 1500 is an IIHS 2019 Top Safety Pick when equipped with front-crash prevention and LED projector headlights. New safety features offered on the 2020 Ram 1500 include blind spot monitoring with rear-cross path and trailer detection, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, guided parking, and an impressive 360 degree surround-view camera.
