Our Favorite Movies to Watch on Halloween

Even as grownups, we still love eating way too much candy on Halloween! Sadly, trick-or-treating as adults is frowned upon, but there are other ways to celebrate this sweet and spooky holiday. One of our favorite ways to get in the spirit, pun intended, is by watching Halloween-themed movies, and scary ones after the kids go to bed.

Here are our favorite movies are to watch this time of year!

Beetlejuice

Adam and Barbara Maitland (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) die in a car crash and have to remain in their home for 150 years as ghosts. The Deetz family movies in after their house is sold and the Maitlands are none too thrilled. They enlist the help of teenage Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) and Beetlejuice, a bio-exorcist played by the brilliant Michael Keaton, to scare the Deetzs off, but Beetlejuice has his own plan.

Beetlejuice is a classic movie that you can watch all year long. Plus, who can forget the iconic scene where everyone starts dancing to “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song” during dinner? Classic.

Halloween

At the age of 6, Michael Myers stabs his 15-year-old sister to death. Myers is institutionalized for 15 years after his doctor Sam Loomis proclaimed he was the personification evil. Myers breaks out the night before Halloween in 1978 to return to his small hometown of Haddonfield to kill again. Little does Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) know what lies ahead as she babysits for the neighbors.

There are now a whopping 11 Halloween movies, and we’re excited to see the newest, which sees Jamie Lee Curtis return again, and is now in theaters.

Hocus Pocus

Three hundred years after they were hanged in 17th-century Salem, Massachusetts for being found out as witches, the Sanderson sisters (Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker) are brought back by Max, a teenage virgin who lit a candle. In order to become immortal, the sisters have to steal the life of a child before sunrise or they turn to dust. Mischief and hilarity ensue as Max his little sister, crush and a talking 300-year-old black cat try to stop the sisters. You’ll have “I Put A Spell On You” stuck in your head after the credits roll on this Halloween classic.

This year is the 25th anniversary of the film and, as it might be the most beloved Halloween movie by all ages, you should be able to catch it on tv more than once this season.
