FCA to Launch Uconnect Market for Vehicles

It was only a matter of time before automakers began e-commerce in vehicles began taking off. While it isn’t a revolutionary idea, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is now jumping on board. They just announced plans to launch Uconnect Market in its vehicles. This platform will allow drivers to easily find the nearest gas station, locate and pay for parking, schedule vehicle service, order and pay for food and make dinner reservations, all from the vehicle’s touchscreen.

If you drive an FCA vehicle — Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat or Alfa Romeo — you’re already familiar with the Uconnect platform. Adding an extra connectivity option was the next step and part of FCA’s connected “ecosystem,” according to Alan D’Agostini, FCA global head of connected services.

“Our customer live busy lives, and our goal with the Uconnect platform is to provide and advanced portfolio of services to make their daily drive more convenient, productive and enjoyable,” D’Agostini said in a statement. “This is why we are launching Uconnect Market, as we continue to ramp up our connectivity efforts around the world with the goal of having all new FCA vehicles connected by 2022.”

Uconnect Market will launch later this year and participating brands include Domino’s, ParkWhiz, Shell and Yelp Reservations. The following services will be available on the platform:

Wallet. When you set up your Uconnect Market account, you’ll add a credit card so you can use certain Uconnect Market partners by paying for those services, like those listed below.

Food. Using Yelp to display a list of nearby restaurants by category, customers will be able to make reservations at participating restaurants.

Fuel. Need gas? You can use Uconnect Market’s list of nearby fuel stations and authorize a fuel pump charge at participating Shell stations with the Shell Pay & Save program.

Parking. Don’t want to spend 10 minutes circling downtown to look for parking? With ParkWhiz on Uconnect Market, you’ll be able to find, book and pay for parking at thousands of garages across the country.

Service. Locate a certified Mopar service center (hopefully us!) and schedule service appointments from your car when you need an oil change, tire rotation or other maintenance or repair.

When Uconnect Market launches, it will be available via an over-the-air update for 2019 and 2020 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles that have connected services and the latest generation of the 8.4-inch touchscreen.
