Jeep Cherokee is “Most American” Vehicle Yet Again

For the second year in a row, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee has come out on top on Cars.com’s annual American-Made Index (AMI).

Jeep vehicles, especially the Cherokee, are no stranger to the AMI. In 2017, the Wrangler was at the top of the list and the Cherokee came in second.

It’s only fitting that the list was released just before America celebrates her anniversary of independence.

“As we approach the Fourth of July holiday, we are especially pleased to celebrate Cherokee’s place as the most American vehicle on Cars.com’s American-Made Index for the second consecutive year,” North America Head of Jeep Brand Jim Morrison said. “We salute the dedicated employees who build the Cherokee, the most capable midsize SUV on the planet, as well as all the loyal Jeep owners who drive it.”

The Cherokee is manufactured at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’s Belvedere Assembly Plant in Belvedere, Illinois. This plant has been in operation since 1965 and it employs 4,093 people on two shifts and nearly five million square feet of floor space.

“The Jeep Cherokee tops Cars.com’s American-Made Index for the second year in a row, taking the number-one position, thanks to high scores across the five major factors analyzed int he index,” Cars.com Senior Consumer Affairs Editor Kelsey Mays said.

The five major categories the AMI ranks vehicles in are: assembly location, engine sourcing, transmission sourcing, factory jobs provided by each automaker’s U.S. plants and domestic-parts content as determined by the American Automobile Labeling Act.
