Currently, Jeep offers two 4xe models: the Wrangler and the all-new Grand Cherokee. Each of these vehicles is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor and battery for a combined output of 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque on the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe.
Speaking of the new Wrangler 4xe, the torque provided by the electric motors improve rock crawling capabilities and powerful speed off the line. With impressive traction, the Wrangler 4xe is the industry’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle with front and rear locking differentials. Electric hybrid power gives you the freedom to go long distances without range anxiety. Whether you want to take an off-road adventure or simply get around town on all-electric power, the Wrangler 4xe features an estimated 49 MPGe rating. This means there are 370 miles of total driving range and 21 miles of all-electric driving range. This means you can scoot around town running errands without even needing to get any gasoline!
There are three driving modes you can choose using E-Selec. These drive modes include Hybrid, eSave, and Electric. Hybrid is the default mode and it combines torque from both the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and the electric motors. This combination provides maximum horsepower, instant torque, and the best acceleration. Electric power is consumed first. When the battery has more than a one percent state of charge, it can run in Electric Mode. This allows for nearly zero tailpipe emissions up to highway speeds. The vehicle can run in this mode for up to 21 miles. eSave Mode prioritizes the 2.0-liter engine and saves the battery charge for later use. When power demand is low, the engine shuts off. It can also be reconfigured to increase the battery charge as well. Regenerative braking is not a drive mode but it is a key feature for any hybrid or electric vehicle. This feature allows the battery to be charged when decelerating and braking. The Max Regeneration feature remaps the accelerator pedal to command more aggressive regen at low pedal positions. It allows you to slow the vehicle down without the brake pedal, but a complete stop always requires the brake pedal. It also stays selected until you turn it off.
Recharging the 4xe Jeep is super easy. The battery can be fully recharged in approximately 2 hours using an available level two charger (240-volt), or 12 hours using the included level one charger (120-volt). With the ability to charge at home and work, you can enjoy the benefits of fully electric daily commutes. Level two chargers can be found in public places using Charge Point or you can use any standard wall plug.
Whether you choose the more rugged 4xe Wrangler or the more luxurious 4xe Grand Cherokee, you’ll know you’re driving a 4xe model with the smoothness of the drive and the fun light blue accents on the exterior.
