Our Favorite Songs About Cars

Cars and music, particularly rock ’n roll, were made for each other. There’s absolutely nothing like rolling down the windows on a nice day and cruising down the highway to a great song. We’re not the only ones who think that because bands and artists have been writing songs about cars pretty much since the invention of the vehicle.

Since our love of music pretty much equals our love of cars, we decided to put together a list of our favorite car songs. Without further ado, here are a handful of our favorites!

“Little Deuce Coupe” by The Beach Boys

It was so hard to pick just one song Beach Boys song about a car for this blog, but we did it. The song is referring to a 1932 Ford and it’s reportedly Brian Wilson’s favorite of the many Beach Boys car songs.

“Drive My Car” by The Beatles

No good playlist is complete without a Beatles song, right?

“I’m In Love With My Car” by Queen

Written and sung by drummer Roger Taylor, this song was the B-side of the “Bohemian Rhapsody” single. It’s dedicated to one of the band’s roadies as written in the liner notes: “Dedicated to Johnathan Harris, boy racer to the end.”

Naturally, our favorite lyric is “Told my girl I’d have to forget her / Rather buy me a new carburettor.”

No, we didn’t misspell it, the English added an extra T in carburetor.

“Highway Star” by Deep Purple

This song just makes you want to drive fast, which is appropriate because the first verse is about just that.

“G.T.O.” by Ronnie & The Daytonas

We can definitely relate to saving all our money to buy our dream car. This happy ditty is a tribute to the Pontiac GTO, which is widely considered to be the first official muscle car.

“Low Rider” by War

You’ve definitely heard this song in movies if you’re not already a fan of it. It’s a funky tune that you can’t help but roll your windows down and bob your head to.

“Mercury Blues” by Steve Miller Band

You may have heard Alan Jackson’s version or the cover by Meat Loaf, but this is tour fave. It’s also a cover of the K.C. Douglas original. The song is about a guy who just wants to cruise with the girl he likes in a Ford Mercury. Nothing wrong with that, right?
