Spring Break Staycations in Little Rock

February 22nd, 2019 by

Oh, spring break. We miss having a week off from school to go on a trip with friends and/or family and get away from everything. Spring break is usually a time to take the kids on a fun trip somewhere, or let them go off with friends so thy aren’t bored to tears at home for a whole seven days.

What if a trip isn’t in the budget or you aren’t too keen on your kids traveling without you? There are plenty of places in and around Little Rock that are perfect for an all-day outing or for venturing out for a few hours. By the end of the week, the kids will forget all about going to the beach or skiing.

Little Rock Zoo

The zoo is a must if you have animal lovers in the family. If the weather cooperates, your kids will love seeing the elephants, lions, tigers, primates and all the other animals. During the spring, the Zoo website suggests going on Monday or Tuesday to avoid large school groups that usually go at the end of the week.

Museum of Discovery

Your kids will have tons of fun and learn while playing at the Museum of Discovery downtown in the River Market district. They can play with tools and materials in the Tinkering Studio, learn about tornadoes in the Tornado Alley Theater, see the Guinness World Record musical bi-polar Tesla coil in the Tesla Theater and tons more. There are two special events on March 18 and 19 where they can meet and get a photo with Jet Propulsion from the show “Ready Jet Go!” and Nature Cat from “Nature Cat.”

Pinnacle Mountain State Park

Take the kids to hike the mountain, ride bikes on the trails, have a picnic or canoe on one of the rivers at Pinnacle.

Spring Break at the Historic Arkansas Museum

The Historic Arkansas Museum downtown has a special exhibit celebrating Arkansas’s Territorial Bicentennial and each day of that week will focus on a different person’s path to Arkansas. You and the kids will learn about early settlers as well as how to cook pioneer food, pioneer skills and make crafts.

The Great Inflatable Race

End spring break with The Great Inflatable Race on Saturday, March 23 in North Little Rock. It’s a fun run with inflatables all throughout the course. You’ll get your exercise outside of the boring gym and the kids will have a blast. Registration includes a wristband, t-shirt, temporary tattoo and race medal.
