Road Trip Classics Playlist Part 2

January 16th, 2020 by

There’s something about road trips that evokes nostalgia to years long past. When you were a kid, there were probably far fewer options for entertainment on the road. Your main form of entertainment was probably music from the radio. When you take road trips now, you have endless entertainment choices: podcasts, audiobooks, Spotify, and more. Even with all those options, there’s something special about revisiting the music that got you through the miles and miles of never-ending highways in years before. We at Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram have shared some of our own nostalgic road trip favorites in a playlist for your next trip. Whether you’re young, old, or in-between, these classic road trip tunes are sure to keep you singing for the long haul!

“9 to 5” by Dolly Parton

Ah, the classic worker’s anthem. Play this on repeat and you may just go “crazy if you let it”!

“Any Way You Want It” by Journey

This is an up-beat classic that anyone can sing along to. Carpool Karaoke, anyone?

“Edge of Seventeen” by Stevie Nicks

Get ready to blast out your air guitar and bring out your inner angsty teenager!

“American Pie” by Don McLean

It’s not a great American road trip without this Don McLean classic.

“Should I Stay or Should I Go” by The Clash

Try not to head bang too much when you listen to this one (you don’t want to get pulled over for reckless driving)!

“Peaceful Easy Feeling” by the Eagles

We love this Eagles song for its peaceful acoustic strum and sentimental lyrics. Kick back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

“Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen

The perfect tune for your own “runaway American dream.” The Boss really knew what he was talking about when he said: “we’re gonna get to that place where we really want to go, and we’ll walk in the sun.”

“We Didn’t Start the Fire” by Billy Joel

Listen to this song and you might just get a little history lesson from Billy Joel. Pay attention to hear his reference to the Little Rock Central High School Crisis of 1957.

“Cecilia” by Simon & Garfunkel

We love this song for its dreamy harmonies and unique rhythmic quality.

“I Want You to Want Me” by Cheap Trick

This wild pop-rock hit will have you grooving in the passenger seat!

“Jack & Diane” by John Mellencamp

If you’re getting really tired of this road trip (or this playlist), just take heed of John Mellencamp’s reminder: “oh yeah, life goes on.”

“Beast of Burden” by The Rolling Stones

‘Cause it’s been too long since you let Mick Jagger serenade you.

“Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield

Apparently this song was actually written about some guy named Gary and his girl, but Rick Springfield thought “Jessie” was a little more catchy. Try not to sing along– we dare you!

“December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)” by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons

Sing along and try to remember what you were doing in “late December 1963” (if you were even born yet, that is!).

“Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver.

One of John Denver’s most beloved songs, and there’s no doubt why. This beautiful song is one of four official anthems of West Virginia, and adored by yankees and southerners alike.
