Dos & Don’ts of Washing Mud off Your Jeep

Mud is a badge of honor on a Jeep. It signifies a long day out doing what Jeepers do best — tearing up the trails in Arkansas!

Even though we love seeing your Jeeps covered in mud, if you leave that mud on your vehicle, you’re risking damage both to your engine and your paint job. At Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Little Rock, Arkansas, we know how important your Jeep is to you. So, we’ve put together a list of dos and don’ts of how to wash your Jeep.

DO

• Wash it off sooner rather than later. Dried mud can be nearly as hard as concrete.

• Use a pressure washer on the exterior. It will knock the mud off much easier, and you can use it to clean the driveway afterward.

• Use warm water. It just makes mud removal easier.

• Use a hose and soap on the engine compartment.

• Many Jeepers recommend using the Simple Green brand of cleaners.

• Carefully wash off the radiator and clear the grates of mud. Dried mud could lead to overheating and we don’t have to tell you how bad that is when it happens.

• Spray the bottom of your Jeep with Armor All before you go out. It will make the mud rinse off much easier.

• Park your Jeep over a sprinkler to wash off the undercarriage.

• Have your engine steam cleaned every once in a while to make sure all the nooks and crannies are taken care of.

DON’T

• Forget to wash around and behind areas like the bumper and wheels.

• Use any cleaners with ammonia or alcohol, which will eventually discolor and wear out your plastic surfaces.

• Use Pledge to clean your soft top vinyl windows, as it will eventually cause your windows to turn yellow.

• Go through a car wash if you have a soft top. You could scratch your windows, tear your seams or inadvertently cause damage to your soft top.
