Landers Lunches Makes Sure That No Kid Goes Hungry This Summer

For children experiencing food hardship, public schools provide a significant portion of their nutritional needs. Free and reduced breakfast, lunches and after-school nutrition programs ensure that students get the sustenance they need during the school year. But what happens when school isn’t in session? To make sure that kids in Central Arkansas stay fed this summer, the Landers Auto Group of Little Rock has launched Landers Lunches. 

Arkansas has had a food security crisis for years and currently ranks the fourth highest in the nation for childhood hunger. Nearly one in three children experience food hardship in Arkansas, and these children depend on their schools for most of their meals. At Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we believe that no one should have to go to bed hungry, especially not a growing child. Through donations to the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance and No Kid Hungry, we will provide meals to children in the Little Rock School District and Pulaski County Special School District to ensure they receive the nutrition they need to thrive. For every $25 donated, we can provide 125 meals. This summer we will provide 75,000 meals to children in Central Arkansas, and we hope you’ll join us to donate even more!

We launched Landers Lunches as a part of our Do Good Feel Good initiative. This initiative is our promise to support and give back to our local community. Some of our most popular causes include Crush for a Cure and Classroom Heroes. 

Each year at the Arkansas State Fair, we host Crush for a Cure. For one dollar per swing, visitors can smash their stress away as they “crush” a clunker car. The proceeds are donated to the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at UAMS in Little Rock to support cancer research locally. 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers everywhere were struggling to engage and educate their students. The Classroom Heroes Award was created in the fall of 2020 to honor remarkable teachers who served their students despite all odds. Each month during the school year, nominations from peers, parents and students are judged, and one winner is chosen to receive $500 to share with their school and a gift bag. At the end of the semester, the public votes online for the Semester Hero who is honored with $5,000 to share with their school and a special Classroom Heroes trophy. The Classroom Heroes Award will be back this fall to honor more teachers in Central Arkansas!
